The Arrow and The Song-By Henry W. Longfellow

The Arrow and The Song
I shot an arrow into the air,
If fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow . 1807-1882

The Rainbow By William Wordsworth

My heart leaps up when I behold
A Rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a Man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!

The Child is Father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

Peony River
(Devon):
#The curved bridge reflects on the surface of the lake

 Looking here from your side [it forms] a circle of happiness under the moon

 The old granite road that we walked on

 What does the section of the wall with mixed [colored] bricks look like now?

 The places that can’t be reached are called far away The place that (I) can’t return to is called hometown

Lara+彈頭 (Lara & Devon):
*Who is singing the song Peony River outside the door I sentimentally listen to your lingering voice

 The wind-chimes sway and ring loudly The village by the river is peaceful as if it is napping

 Who is singing the song Peony River outside the door I quietly walk beside you

 The light of memories seep through the window the silver white warmth splashes on [my] childhood bed

Repeat #,*,*

Lara:
The Peony river curved a few times. Little fishes, don’t come aboard, we don’t care

Spread the net to catch the moon and stars for grandfather to drink a bowl of hometown with his wine

The Peony river curved a few times. Little dried shrimps, don’t come aboard, we don’t have time to pack [you] up

Spread the net to catch the moon and stars for grandmother to cook and drink a bowl of hometown

LIFE

LIFE

Life is so preciously short.
In time machine, we got lost,
Hold out to our pristine flames,
While chasing after fame and fortune.

Life is full of perilous obstacles.
To be brutally practical,
No pain, no gain,
Win out all our fair games.

Life can be either strong or fragile.
No time to stand or stare,
No room for roaming woe,
Let yourself be master of your soul.

Life can be an up and down.
Set free from your own fear.
Shake off your fear of personal freedom.
Every new day will be fine.

Love Thy Will Be Done-Martika

Love Thy Will Be Done-Martika

Love, thy will be done
I can no longer hide
I can no longer run
No longer can I resist the guiding light
It gives me the power to keep up the fight
Love...thy will be done
Since I have found you my life has just begun
And I see all of your creations as one
Perfect complex
No one less beautiful or more special than the next
We are all blessed and so wise to accept
Thy will love be done

Love, thy will be mine
And make me strive for the glorious and divine
I could not be more, more satisfied (satisfied…)
Even when there's no peace outside my window
There's peace inside
And that's why I no longer run (I don’t know…)
Love thy will be done

Love, thy will be done
I can no longer hide
I can no longer run (no….)
Love, thy will be done
Thy will love be done

No longer can I resist (no..) the guiding light (guiding light)
The light that gives me the power to keep up the fight
I couldn’t be more satisfied (no…)
Even when there's no peace outside my window
There's peace inside
And that's why I can not longer run
Love thy will be done (thy will be done, done, done…)

Love, thy will be done
I can no longer hide
I can no longer run
Love, thy will be done
Thy will love be done

Love, thy will be done
I can no longer hide
I can no longer run (no, no, no)
Love, thy will be done
Thy will love be done…
Thy will love be done…
Thy will love be done

The Gift from The Crescent Moon (Sir Rabindranath Tagore)

For Father's Day....for all the loving parents..

THE GIFT
I want to give you something, my child, for we are drifting in the stream of the world.

Our lives will be carried apart, and our love forgotten.

But I am not so foolish as to hope that I could buy your heart with my gifts.

Young is your life, your path long, and you drink the love we bring you at one draught and turn and run away from us.

You have your play and your playmates. What harm is there if you have no time or thought for us.

We, indeed, have leisure enough in old age to count the days that are past, to cherish in our hearts what our hands have lost for ever.

The river runs swift with a song, breaking through all barriers.

But the mountain stays and remembers, and follows her with his love.

Our Lady,My Hero-Daw Aung San Suu Kyi-

Our Lady, My Hero
Our Lady under house arrest,
Petite with mental might,
Our Lady with huge tasks,
Keep up this democratic fight.

Our Lady being locked up in Jail,
Dignity under pressure in tow,
Our Lady with conviction in tack,
Face up this injustice with grace.

Our Lady, Our Captain,
Her Love and Courage will not be cowed.
Our Lady will never bow.
She’ll be happy 64.

LET IT BE FORGOTTEN-Sara Teasdale

LET IT BE FORGOTTEN
LET it be forgotten, as a flower is forgotten,
Forgotten as a fire that once was singing gold,
Let it be forgotten for ever and ever,
Time is a kind friend, he will make us old.

If anyone asks, say it was forgotten
Long and long ago,
As a flower, as a fire, as a hushed footfall
In a long forgotten snow.

Sara Teasdale (1884-1933)

One day I wrote her name upon the strand-Edmund Spenser

One day I wrote her name upon the strand,
But came the waves and washed it away:
Again I wrote it with a second hand,
But came the tide, and made my pains his prey.
'Vain man,' said she, 'that dost in vain assay
A mortal thing so to immortalize,
For I myself shall like to this decay,
And eke my name be wiped out likewise.'
'Not so,' quod I, 'let baser things devise
To die in dust, but you shall live by fame:
My verse your virtues rare shall eternize,
And in the heavens write your glorious name,
Where, whenas Death shall all the world subdue,
Our love shall live, and later life renew.'

Chinese Poet:Xu Zhimo (Hsü Chih-mo)-徐志摩 Poem

Short Bio in Chinese and Short Bio in English of Hsu Chih Mo (Xu Zhimo).

正如我轻轻的来;

是夕阳中的新娘;

油油的在水底招摇;

是天上虹;

向青草更青处漫溯;

悄悄是别离的笙箫;

正如我悄悄的来;

Saying Good-bye to Cambridge Again - by Xu Zhimo
Very quietly I take my leave
As quietly as I came here;
Quietly I wave good-bye
To the rosy clouds in the western sky.

The golden willows by the riverside
Are young brides in the setting sun;
Their reflections on the shimmering waves
Always linger in the depth of my heart.

The floating heart growing in the sludge
Sways leisurely under the water;
In the gentle waves of Cambridge
I would be a water plant!

That pool under the shade of elm trees
Holds not water but the rainbow from the sky;
Shattered to pieces among the duckweeds
Is the sediment of a rainbow-like dream?

To seek a dream? Just to pole a boat upstream
To where the green grass is more verdant;
Or to have the boat fully loaded with starlight
And sing aloud in the splendor of starlight.

But I cannot sing aloud
Quietness is my farewell music;
Even summer insects heap silence for me
Silent is Cambridge tonight!

Very quietly I take my leave
As quietly as I came here;
Gently I flick my sleeves
Not even a wisp of cloud will I bring away

(Hikaru Utada): First Love

This is a Theme song from Japanese TV Drama Series called "First Love", Moe Nu De Gee Hua" in Chinese.

FIRST LOVE (Utada Hikaru)

You are always gonna be my love
I'll remember to love
You taught me how
You are always gonna be the one

You will always be inside my heart
I hope that I have a place in your heart too
Now and forever you are still the one

You are always gonna be my love
I'll remember to love
You taught me how
You are always gonna be the one

Now and forever Fu・・・

You will always be inside my heart
Itsumo anata dake no basho ga aru kara
I hope that I have a place in your heart too
Now and forever you are still the one
Ima wa mada kanashii love song
Atarashii uta utaeru made

You are always gonna be my love
Itsuka darekato mata koi ni ochitemo
I'll remember to love-- you taught me how
You are always gonna be the one...
Mada kanashii love song, yeah...
Now and forever
******************************************************
Meaning of the song: -

The last kiss was the flavor of tobacco
A sad and bitter aroma

About this time tomorrow,
Where will you be?
Who will you think of?

You are always gonna be my love
Even if one day I fall in love with someone else
I'll remember to love -- you taught me how
You are always gonna be the one
It's still a sad love song
Until I can sing a new one

The paused time
Is about to move
But I don't wish to forget

About this time tomorrow,
I'll probably be crying,
Most likely thinking about you

You will always be inside my heart
Because there is a place for you there
I hope that I have a place in your heart, too
Now and forever you are still the one
It's still a sad love song
Until I can sing a new one

You are always gonna be my love
Even if one day I fall in love with someone else
I'll remember to love you taught me how
You are always gonna be the one
It's still a sad love song, yeah
Now and forever

True Love (Sir Walter Raleigh) & My Love (BaKoGi)

I got this short extract poem from play reading at British Council. We were the first group to revive the play reading in the late 1987. We read plays and poems at the British Council, British Embassy in Yangon, Burma. That was the beginning of my interest of English poems and literature. Many thanks to Mr. Ahmad, Mr. Poesaw and Mrs Clement of British Military Attache.

"But TRUE LOVE is a durable fire
In the mind ever burning:
Never sick, Never old, Never dead,
From itself never turning."
(Sir Walter Raleigh)

Then, I was thinking, why TRUE LOVE be a burning fire? A burning fire would be hot and full of heat. That won't be a peaceful LOVE. I would agree with never sick, never old, never dead and never turning.
I wrote the following short and easy poem with a few line in January 1990 on the bus.
My Love
My Love for you
Is not a strom
But a breeze
Which's always gentle blowing.

My Love for you
Is not rapid water
But a stream
Which's constantly flowing.

No doubt, Sir Walter Raleigh was a great poet. I am just comparing his thinking of love and mine. I believe in the love of consistency in cherishing and bonding, but not in rapid motion of come and gone. I would never compare that love to fire. The burnig fire will be either give you warmth or suffering. That is why, I used to hear, some elders said "DO NOT PLAY WITH THE FIRE".

PaPa, My Father

PaPa, My Father

When I lost in the maze of life,
He was my guiding light.

When I was sick in the hospital,
He made me feel like in the hotel.

When I was out of line,
He made me pay the fine.

When I was out of love,
He showered me with care.

When I was young,
He showed ways to learn.

When I did well,
He cheered me to excel.

When I failed,
His love never swayed.

When his birthday comes tomorrow,
I wish him happy and healthy fellow.

He’ll have a blessed and blissful day.
We’ll celebrate many more birthdays.
